How SOS-Nounou protects families and ensures profile quality on the platform
Our Commitment
SOS-Nounou connects families with babysitters in Quebec. The safety of children and trust between users are at the heart of everything we do.
This page explains how we moderate profiles, what rules apply on the platform and how to report problematic behaviour.
SOS-Nounou is a matchmaking service. We are not the employer of babysitters and we do not replace the verifications that each parent should carry out before entrusting their children to someone. Our role is to provide a reliable and transparent environment to facilitate this connection.
How Profiles Are Moderated
Verification at registration
Every new profile is manually reviewed by our team before it becomes visible on the platform. This review covers the consistency of information provided (name, city, postal code, description), the quality and authenticity of the profile photo, the absence of inappropriate, misleading or advertising content, and the validity of the email address.
A profile that does not meet our rules is rejected or suspended until corrected. The member receives an email explaining what changes are needed.
Ongoing moderation
Verification does not stop at registration. We regularly monitor active profiles to detect any modified content that no longer meets our rules. Profiles reported by other users receive priority review. Profiles inactive for more than 24 months are automatically deactivated after an email notice.
Trust score
Each babysitter profile has a trust score visible to families. This score increases when the profile is complete (photo, description, verified phone, verified email). A complete profile inspires more trust and appears higher in search results.
What SOS-Nounou Does Not Verify
For the sake of transparency, here is what our moderation does not cover.
Criminal records. SOS-Nounou does not perform any criminal background checks. We recommend that parents request a check through the Sûreté du Québec for any regular or long term care arrangement.
Qualifications and diplomas. We do not verify certificates (babysitter training, first aid, etc.) or diplomas declared by babysitters. Ask to see original documents during your interview.
References. Babysitters may mention their experience, but we do not contact their previous families. It is your responsibility to check references. Our guide on questions to ask a babysitter can help you with this process.
Real identity. We verify the consistency of information provided, not the civil identity of members. Signing in with Google OAuth adds an extra layer of reliability since the email address is confirmed by Google.
Platform Rules
All SOS-Nounou users (families and babysitters) must follow these rules.
Truthful information
Your profile must contain accurate information. False identity, false qualifications, false references or a photo that does not match the registered person will result in immediate account deletion.
Mutual respect
All communication on the platform must remain respectful. Discriminatory, hateful, threatening, harassing or obscene language is prohibited. This includes private messages between members.
Appropriate use
The platform is exclusively for connecting people for childcare and home services. Any commercial solicitation, advertising, recruitment for another service or activity unrelated to childcare is prohibited.
Data protection
You may not collect, store or share other members' contact information for purposes unrelated to a childcare service. Mass messaging (spam) is prohibited.
Reporting Problematic Behaviour
When to report
You should report any situation that seems suspicious or inappropriate. A profile that appears fake or misleading. A babysitter who asks for money in advance. Disrespectful or harassing behaviour. Use of the platform for commercial purposes. Any situation that puts a child's safety at risk.
How to report
Send an email to contact@sos-nounou.com specifying the name or link of the profile in question, the nature of the problem and any relevant details or screenshots.
Our review process
We acknowledge receipt within 48 hours. Our team reviews the reported profile or behaviour. Depending on severity, we send a warning, temporarily suspend the profile, or permanently delete the account. We inform the person who made the report of the outcome of our review.
In case of immediate danger to a child, contact 911 or the Direction de la protection de la jeunesse (DPJ) before reporting the situation to us.
Possible Sanctions
First minor offence (incomplete profile, information to correct): email warning with a request to correct within 7 days.
Repeated or moderate offence (misleading content, disrespectful behaviour): profile suspension for 30 days.
Serious offence (false identity, harassment, endangering a child, illegal activity): immediate and permanent account deletion, with no possibility of re-registration.
Safety Tips for Parents
Meet the babysitter in person before the first care session, ideally at your home and with your children present. Our guide to finding a babysitter details the questions to ask.
Check references. Call at least two previous families.
Ask for certifications. If the babysitter claims to have babysitter training or a first aid certificate, ask to see the original document.
Consider a background check. For regular care, a criminal background check through the Sûreté du Québec (about $80) is an investment that protects your children.
Do a trial session. Before a full care session, offer a short first session (2 to 3 hours) while you are nearby.
Leave emergency information. Phone number where you can be reached, a neighbour or relative's number, allergies, medications, bedtime instructions, 911 and Info-Santé 811 numbers.
