What is a home daycare?

A home daycare (garderie en milieu familial) is a childcare service where a provider (RSG) welcomes a small group of children into their own home. In Quebec, an RSG can care for up to 6 children alone, or up to 9 with an assistant. This type of care offers a more intimate and family-like environment than CPEs or private daycares.

Home daycares can be recognized by a coordinating office, allowing them to offer subsidized spots at reduced rates. Subsidized spots are at the same rate as CPEs, which is $9.10 per day in 2026.
